Why Cage-Free?
Egg consumption in Hong Kong is estimated to exceed 350 tonnes per day. China is the main source of Hong Kong’s egg imports, but less than 1% of them originate from cage-free hens. This enormous demand severely affects millions of hens, reducing them to egg-laying machines confined to a lifetime of suffering and confinement in small filthy cages with less space than an A4 sheet of paper. They are deprived of their basic behaviors, unable to stretch their wings or take a single step, and live a life of illness, stress and powerlessness.
